  • EMDR therapy, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy, is a type of trauma therapy that uses the concept of Rapid Eye Movement (REM) to help process difficult memories and experiences so that they move from the short-term memory (where they feel as though they just happened) to the long-term memory (where they feel like they happened a long time ago). It is highly evidence-based, and has an extremely high rate of success (84% - 90%!). I am happy to give you a breakdown of how it works when we meet, just ask!

  • This is a great question, and I know that it is front of mind for a lot of people. I do take insurance (Aetna, United Healthcare, and Cigna). My fee for services outside of insurance is $175 per session (sessions are 50 minutes outside of the intake session, which will be 90 minutes).

I want to be accessible to those that need these services. It is important that you note that sessions longer than 53+ minutes are not covered by insurances, so by using insurance we are limited in what we will be able to accomplish. You will still see great improvement. If you are wanting the most individualized and discrete care, it may be helpful to remain out of network with your care provider so that notes do not have to be shared with anyone outside of you and your therapist. • That’s okay, and I’m so happy that you’re trying again. Every therapist is different, so I always try to warn people that finding the right therapist is a process. However, if you have noticed talk therapy doesn’t feel as effective for you, you’ll be happy to know that EMDR is a different animal. Sessions are structured, goal-based and meant to give you immediate relief. Talking is not a priority – ask me why on our consultation call.

  • Like I said, EMDR is not talk therapy. If you do not feel comfortable sharing the depths of what has happened to you, you don’t have to. When we meet, I will ask questions that help me to understand if EMDR is right for you, and feeling unsafe in certain subjects is absolutely not a deal breaker. We can process feelings without having to give names to what happened to create them.

  • Absolutely, up to a point. What this means is that my highest priority is confidentiality, which means that I have the utmost respect for your need for therapy to be a safe space and can and will only break that confidentially when I am legally bound to. Want to know more about when this is? Check here for the limits to my confidentiality.

I know that mental health is health, but I’m also aware that we don’t live in a world yet that normalizes it. This means that if you need support in a way that could never be connected to your profession, I can help. Bring this up to me in our consultation call and I can tell you how.

  • The only rule is — don’t come overprepared! The first session together is both a way for each of us to figure out whether we work well together, and a way for me to get to know you as well as I can in 60 minutes. I will let you know about how I work, and then I will ask you a lot of questions about yourself. I will also ask you about your goals, and where you would like to see yourself after therapy.

  • That is entirely up to you! EMDR therapy results can be seen in as little as 3 sessions. If you would like to continue in therapy after seeing results, you are always welcome here. Talk to me about your goals and the way you’d like to utilize therapy to improve your life!
